Its none of your business if and who gets fired over this, as you arent part of their company. Read the EULA for starters and read about how it explains that you use the software at your own risk. Its the same with any piece of software or games you play.
people are expressing opinions and venting. You insulting users with your "stupid" remark isn't adding positively to the discussion either - quotes or no quotes, insulting paying players is not your place, nor that of CCP - and I note that their instructions on how to rectify the problem are neither condescending nor defensive - please take a leaf from their book.
Messing with the boot.ini is something that the updater should NEVER have done in the first place. I am really concerned about quality control, and/or the arrogance of ANY software company that thinks it has rights to go messing with areas of my computers operating systems it has no business messing with (it would be disastrous on my macbook with bootcamp, as I don't have a clue what funky stuff is in the boot.ini there) - it doesn't matter if it's M$ or Symantec, or Sun - when you accept a EULA, you should read it - but nowhere does it say that CCP has the rights to monkey around with areas of the operating system and it's core ability to boot from disk - nor is it implied. Blanket statements about using the problem at your own risk ARE NOT going to prevent someone who either is a good lawyer, or have close access to one from suing if they feel sufficiently put out and that the upshot of a law suit is greater than the cost. Blatant abuse of an operating system would NOT stand up in my experience, as it is clear that there is expectation to be messing with the computer at that level.
Yes, it's a great game I've played for years, and I've referred literally THOUSANDS of customers to CCP as an affiliate - but any company can ruin it's potential with a mess up this big... you and everyone with half a brain realises that many people could NOT restore their own machine without help if the boot.ini is removed - and it's a MAJOR SCR#W UP to have touched the file in the first place.
I agree with you on this matter I am a technician for over 13 years and a heavy gamer for over 28 years since the commodore 64. This is the worst blunder I have seen since SWG messed with their game. But when you mess with OS files that is far worse I have helped fix two of my corp. mateÆs boot.ini files. One of my members has already brought it to get fixed for he did not know :( 60 dollars later (if he live in my country I would have done it free) thus coming to my last point what a bought the players that have to get it fixed because no know knowing their computer screwed up by CCP. And will have to suck up the cost to this Blanket clause in their user agreement dose not fly with me or with other players. I hope CCP can make mends with the menny upset clients caused from this blunder I would hate to see a great game fall.
